Alex Eala Shines at the US Open with Historic Win

August 25, 2025, marks a groundbreaking moment for Philippine tennis as Alexandra Eala delivered a spectacular comeback to secure her place in history. Competing on one of the grandest stages at the US Open, the 20-year-old achieved an incredible first by becoming the only Filipino player to win a Grand Slam singles match.

Eala’s performance in her first-round match was nothing short of remarkable. Facing Denmark’s 14th seed, Clara Tauson, she overcame a 5-1 deficit in the deciding set, clinching victory with a nail-biting score of 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (13/11). Reflecting on her win, she said:

“I’m super over the moon with what I was able to do today, especially coming back in the third. It’s a very special win for me.”

Having previously won the US Open girls’ title in 2022, Eala’s transition to the professional stage has been filled with milestones.
